Todd Grooms

Finished reading: Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel ๐Ÿ“šI picked this up before my recent trip for work. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The pandemic portion hit a little close to home though.

Temperatures over 90ยฐF paired with unhealthy air quality makes for a rough day in Nashville.

๐Ÿ“บ I Created Clippy

Stumbled across this blast from the past via Kottke. I definitely carry a soft spot in my heart for this time period of computing, even though I was only in middle school.

๐Ÿ”— Who killed Google Reader?

Google Reader may be the only Google product that I actually miss. I migrated to Fastmail a few years back and I rarely use Google Search these days.

Our flower garden produced a unique bloom on our Gerbera Daisies. I feel like there is a name for when this happens, but Iโ€™m failing to find one. It reminds me of meiosis.

Gerbera Daisies with one flower exhibiting a unique deformity reminiscent of meiosis.

Finished Ted Lasso last night. I hate to see it end, but I am quite content with how it wrapped up. The ending was tight, but left ample possibilities of a spinoff.

I watched Whisper of the Heart tonight with the family. I loved it. I canโ€™t get over how much I have enjoyed each Studio Ghibli we have watched. The only negative with this movie is that I now have Take Me Home, Country Roads stuck in my head. I suppose there are worse things.

I am resting after spending a few hours in my backyard, attempting to clean up our flower bed. The plants there were ravaged by the extreme freeze we had in December. I feared all of the plants were dead. However, some seem to be coming back. I have begun pruning the dead limbs back.

I have tried to cut back on the amount of goods I purchase on Amazon. When I do purchase something, I choose the slowest delivery option because I am usually not in immediate need of the product. Amazon usually ships it much faster than the delivery option I choose though. Mildly irritating.

After a long hiatus, I resumed play of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild last night. I was on the fourth quest when I stopped playing previously. The timestamp on the safe file was March of 2022. Difficult to believe that it has been over a year since I last played it.

When you realize that you’re an adult and can just go buy cake anytime you want.

I enjoyed Tetris on Apple TV+. I know the story is embellished for entertainment, but itโ€™s a fun watch.

๐Ÿ”— Daring Fireball: U.S. Treasury: All Silicon Valley Bank Depositors Will Have Access to All of Their Money Starting Tomorrow

They say there are no atheists in a foxhole, but there are more of them than there are libertarians in a bank run.

Gruber has been on fire lately.

Itโ€™s difficult to plan any short Spring Break vacations. We had scheduled a trip to California for months and had the unfortunate luck of landing during a very wet week. Even with that, we are attempting to make the best of it.

I understand that there isnโ€™t an avenue for enforcement, but if you park an oversized vehicle in a compact spot or a gas guzzler in a green spot, thatโ€™s a jerk move. If you specifically occupy two compact/green spots in an oversized gas guzzler, you are a jerk.

I highly doubt that anyone who reads these words is not already aware of this, but just in case youโ€™re the one not in the overlap of this Venn Diagram, please consider not taking the refund.

Late to the party, but just finished season two of Ted Lasso. I like how this season addressed the importance of mental health. One positive thing with being so late to the party: season three is just around the corner. ๐Ÿ“บ

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Song Exploder - Episode 28: The Long Winters - The Commander Thinks Aloud

I’ve listened to The Commander Thinks Aloud dozens of times, but never knew what the song was about. Wow. I vaguely remember the Columbia disaster, but this episode hit me hard.

๐Ÿ”— Nashville Mayor John Cooper announces he wonโ€™t seek second term

I am not sure how I feel about this. He has had such an awful hand dealt to him during his tenure, a hand that cost him $350,000 of his own money. His mayoral term feels like a Pyrrhic victory. I am sure this was not the term he envisioned. As a reminder: we do not choose the moment; rather, the moment chooses us.

I have used toddgrooms.com as my personal blog since I obtained the domain in college. My blog has gone through a few iterations. I have maintained this iteration since 2013. I am proud of my current iteration, but regret the loss of some of the pre-2013 content. Recently, I have been considering a new domain for my personal blog. I think having my name as a landing page makes a lot of sense. I like the idea of my blog living its own life under its own independent name. I also slightly dislike the โ€œ.comโ€ TLD for my domain. Iโ€™ve also considered picking up a different TLD variant of my current domain. I have also considered migrating my blog (self hosted Jekyll blog) over here so that my blog and micro blog all live together. Iโ€™m currently in a weird limbo where I need to use git to create posts for my blog. It creates so much friction that Iโ€™m unable to quickly hammer out a full blog post for my regular site.

I am certain this will be something I ponder for awhile.

Finished reading: Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel ๐Ÿ“š

Wow! I added this book to my list after seeing it mentioned in someone elseโ€™s feed. Iโ€™m so glad I picked it up! I enjoyed it and was caught off guard by the ending.
